South Pointe Hospital's 6 Medical Unit is a fast-paced unit that cares for patients with a variety of medical conditions and diseases, such pneumonia, congestive heart failure, infectious disease, asthma, and COPD exacerbation, and is very experienced in ventilator management for chronic ventilator patients. This unit strongly believes in the importance of mentoring caregivers to be the best they can be in a family-oriented and positive environment and providing opportunities to serve as a unit resource, become NICHE certified, perform studies and be active in shared governance. A caregiver in this position works 7:00PM - 7:30AM. A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Provide direct nursing care.
  • Implement, monitor, evaluate, update and revise patient care plans.
    • Monitor, record, document and communicate patients' conditions.
      • Administer prescribed medications and treatments.
        • Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
          • Assess and coordinate patients' discharge needs.
            • Educate patients and their families . Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
              • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing.
                • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
                  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
                    • One-year of current acute care RN experience. Will consider military RN experience. Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
